On Sunday, October 27, 2002, at the 1:00 PM Mass, Father Blyman was officially installed as our new pastor. Father Blyman had been serving as Associate Pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, West Islip, since Jan 2002.
Ordained in 1970, Father Blyman served as Associate Pastor of St. Boniface Church, Elmont (1970-1974). He then took a leave of absence and lived at a contemplative monastery where he realized he wanted to study medicine.
Father Blyman went to medical school at Michigan State University. After two years in family practice residency, Father turned to psychiatry, studying in Maine and doing his residency at Maine Medical Center. He returned to the diocese in 1993, and after briefly serving as temporary pastor of St. Agnes Church, Greenport, he became chaplain for the Sisters of St. Joseph in Brentwood (1993-1995). At the same time, he joined the psychiatric staff of Mercy Medical Center, Rockville Centre. He also served as a medical expert with the diocesan Marriage Tribunal.
In 1996, Father Blyman was named vicar for senior priests, and he lived at St. Pius X Residence, Uniondale, until June 2001. Father Blyman then moved his residence to St. Joseph's, Hewlett, where he stayed until becoming Associate Pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes.
